No Turkey for Thanksgiving
Back of Book:
When Tuyet finds out her Vietnamese family is having duck rather than turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, she is upset until she finds out that other children in her class did not eat turkey either.
My Review:
This is the only diverse children’s book that I have in my Thanksgiving read-aloud collection. I applaud Jacqueline for writing a story about the differences in Thanksgiving meals. Tuyet feels left out in school because her family is Vietnamese and instead of Turkey, they eat duck at Thanksgiving. The story tells readers about Tuyet’s Thanksgiving Day and how it isn’t different than everyone else’s Day. At the end of the story, all the students share the different foods that they ate at Thanksgiving. The illustrations are lovely and soft. I loved that the author shows readers that Thanksgiving is about family, and not about what you eat. This is a great story to add to any diverse book collection.
