Back of Book:
Who was Lincoln really? This little girl wants to find out. She discovers, among other things, that our sixteenth president was a man who believed in freedom for all, had a dog named Fido, loved Mozart, apples, and his wife’s vanilla cake, and kept his notes in his hat. From his boyhood in a log cabin to his famous presidency and untimely death, Maira Kalman shares Lincoln’s remarkable life with young readers in a fresh and exciting way.
My Review:
Abraham Lincoln was an amazing man and president. He stood for truth and equality among men. I love sharing his life and accomplishments with my students. This book is unique because it is written from the perspective of a young girl. She wants to learn more about him, so she goes to the library to research the great man. The text is written in a way that younger audiences can relate to. I love that the little girl wonders if the President and his wife had nick names for one another. I also like all the facts that are in this story. The illustrations are fun, and will capture readers attention. A perfect book to read for Presidents Day.
