Back of Book:
One summer day, a boy ventures into his backyard on a mission to find the perfect pet. When he asks to keep the animals that happened to “follow” him home, his mom points out that birds belong in the sky and frogs belong in the pond. He starts to wonder: is there an animal that belongs right there with him? In a heartwarming conclusion, he discovers the perfect pet has been around him all along.
My Review:
I received a copy of this picture book from Page Street Kids Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a sweet gem of a story. It follows a young boy whose only wish is to find the perfect animal as a pet. He encounters several animals including a squirrel, a frog, and a bird. Each time his mom tells him that the animal needs to stay in nature where it belongs. Finally, in the end,
the boy finds the perfect pet for him. The illustrations are bright and colorful. They draw a reader into the story. The story is written with repetitive lines making it a perfect story for preschoolers. My Pre-K class loved hearing this story as asked me to read it again. A great and fun read-aloud from a debut author. I look forward to reading more stories by Lisa Jobe
