My Review:
I am so excited to be apart of this year’s Multicultural Book Day sharing books about diverse characters. I have gifted a copy of Sissy Goes Tiny for the event.
The tiny house movement is a social movement that advocates living more simply in a small house under 400 square feet. Many families are giving up their possessions and becoming minimalists. Sissy Goes Tiny is a fantastic look at the tiny house concept from a child’s point of view.
The story begins with Sissy’s parents talking to her about their new adventure. They explain the concept and share with her why they think it will be a wonderful idea. The story follows Sissy and her family as they go through their things and sell their house. I loved that the book focuses on Sissy’s emotions both positive and negative as she comes to terms with her new adventure.
The illustrations by Penny Weber are warm and inviting. The back of the book has more information about the history and other facts of tiny houses. This is a terrific story to start up conversations about all the different places people live in.

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2020 (1/31/20) is in its 7th year! This non-profit children’s literacy initiative was founded by Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen; two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural books and authors on the market while also working to get those book into the hands of young readers and educators.
Seven years in, MCBD’s mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves continues.
