My Review:
I received a copy of this picture book from Worthy Kids in exchange for an honest review:
Social and emotional learning is something that I often bring up on my posts because I believe it is one of the most important things that we can teach children. Taste Your Words by debut author Bonnie Clark is a wonderful story that focuses on the importance of choosing your words carefully. The story follows a young girl named Amera as she learns that when you are unkind to the people you care about, the words can taste nasty like sour lemons, or rotten milk. The more unkind words Amera uses, the worse she feels. It is only when Amera begins to use kind words that she realizes how much better she feels. Bonnie did a wonderful job using metaphors to connect the different types of words with food types. It allows children to recognize the consequences of using their words in a hurtful way. The illustrations by Todd Bright are creative and vibrant. He did a fantastic job bringing the different examples of food to life. This a truly wonderful book with a powerful message for children and adults of all ages.
