Debut author Randi Sonenshine took the popular rhyming style of “The House That Jack Built” and created a scientific look at how a Carolina Wren builds its nest. The text skillfully goes through each step of the nest-building process and shows readers the different jobs of the male and female wren. The lyrical text also shares the items that make up a nest. I loved how each page had an educational component to it. It allows readers to enjoy the story, while also learning about how wrens create their nests. The illustrations by Anne Hunter are whimsical, while still scientific. The details on each page give readers a clear look at how the wrens each have a part to play in building their nest. The back of the book shares a glossary as well are more facts about wrens. This is a perfect book for any bird or spring unit study.
