A Book for Escargot By Dashka Slater & Sydney Hanson

Back of Book:

Bonjour!

It is moi, Escargot, your favorite French snail.

Today I am going on a trip to the library, where there are so many stories to choose from! Stories about dog superheroes… guinea pig detectives….

and flamingo astronauts.

But sadly, none of these books is about a daring snail hero who saves the day. What is that you say? Perhaps this is the book about the snail hero? Ooh-la-la!

My Review:

I received a copy of this picture book from author Dashka Slater in exchange for an honest review.

I was a huge fan of the first Escargot book and was thrilled to hear that Dashka wrote another story centered around finding the perfect book at the library. The text captures readers’ attention from the beginning as Escargot introduces himself and shares his mission to find a perfect cookbook. The interactive component of this book keeps readers engaged and focused on what Escargot is asking them to do. My personal favorite part of this story was the snail version of the classic stories it adds extra humor to the storyline. As a teacher, I love that Escargot outlines the elements on how to write a story. I look forward to getting back into the classroom and using this picture book as a part of my writing workshops. The illustrations by Sydney Hanson are truly captivating. Readers will fall in love with the lovable Escargot and his many expressions. This is a true gem and one you don’t want to miss out on.
