Alien Tomato By Kristen Schroeder & Mette Engell

Back of Book:
When a mysterious red orb appears one day, the vegetables aren’t sure what to make of it. They decide that it must be an alien tomato! They name her Allie and try to make her feel as welcome as possible. But Gopher isn’t convinced. He’s sure it’s just a ball.
This delightfully silly tale and its equally hilarious art are a perfect fit for gardeners and sci-fi fans alike.
My Review:
I received a copy of this picture book from Page Street Kids in exchange for an honest review.
Debut author Kristen Schroeder wrote a clever and adorable story about a garden of veggies with a mystery on their hands. Allie, who unexpectedly appeared in the garden one day, an alien tomato or not? Sometimes readers think that the veggies are right that she is, but other times readers think that know-it-all Gopher is right and she nothing but a simple red ball. The ending is a fun and laugh out loud surprise! The text is written using speech bubbles which is a fantastic way for readers to focus on the different dialogue from each veggie and Gopher. The illustrations by Mette Engell are full of vibrant colors and detail. I love the expressions on each page. This is a fantastic book to use for my writer’s workshop.
