Back of Book:
George loves Saturdays.
That’s because Saturdays mean time with Grandma Stella. The two of them love going on adventures downtown to visit the dinosaur museum and ride on the carousel! Even when they stay in, George and Stella have fun together, making cinnamon rolls without popping open a tube and sharing the biggest, best hugs.
Then one day Stella is gone, and George is ready to cancel Saturdays. But when a new addition to the family arrives, George finds a way to celebrate the priceless memories he made with his grandma―while making new ones too.
My Review:
I received a copy of this picture book from Page Street Kids in exchange for an honest review.
“Saturdays Are for Stella” by debut author Candy Wellins is a touching story that follows the bond between a young boy and his grandmother. George loves the amazing adventures that he has every Saturday with his grandma Stella. When he was with Stella he got to go on amazing adventures, eat frozen yogurt, and ride on carousels. When Grandma Stella dies George doesn’t think he will ever like Saturdays again. It will take a new little sister to show him that he can continue to make memories and keep his grandma close to his heart. The illustrations by Charlie Eve Ryan are warm and inviting This is a heartwarming story that shows readers in a sensitive way that they can keep the memories of their loved ones alive.
