My Review:
I was instantly drawn into this enduring back to school story. Readers follow Danbi as she begins her first day of school in the United States after immigrating with her family from South Korea. Danbi doesn’t understand the teacher and everything she tries to do seems wrong. When lunchtime arrives Danbi brings out her colorful food and catches the interest of her classmates. Danbi shows the class how to use chopsticks and realizes that some things can bring everyone together. The text is engaging and introduces readers to the themes of immigration and cultural differences in a sweet way. The illustrations are expressive and vibrant Anna Kim captured the first day of school in a touching and unique way. This is a must-have for the first week of school.
