My Review:
As a teacher, one of my most important goals is to build a positive classroom community. “Your Name Is a Song” by author Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow follows a young girl who comes home frustrated because no one at school can pronounce her beautiful name. The girl’s mother uses lyrical language to teach her about the musicality of names from all over the world. The end of the story shows the young girl teaching her teacher and classmates that her name is pronounced like a song. The illustrations by Luisa Uribe are whimsical and a beautiful blend of colors. The back of the book has a glossary of names featured in the story. This is an inspirational back to school story with a message that should be shared with every child and adult.
