“Time to Roar” by Olivia A. Cole is a timely and powerful picture book about finding your voice in the midst of noise. The story follows a group of animals as they try to scare away the great yellow beasts. Each animal attempts different calm techniques to scare off the yellow beasts. The bluebird, the rabbits, and the deer, gently react but nothing stops the machines. Sasha the bear, knows that it is up to her to take a stand so she goes out and roars! The illustrations by Jessica Gibson are filled with warm colors and intricate details that bring the forest to life. The message of this story shows readers that it is okay to be assertive and take a stand for what is right. The book also allows readers to see the harm of deforestation and how humans are harming our environment. A sweet and empowering story.
