I received a copy of this picture book from Page Street Kids in exchange for an honest review.
Debut author Elizabeth Gilbert Bedia wrote a touching story that follows a , kind-hearted, maternal barn named Bess. Bess is the steadfast constant throughout each season. She helps the farmer and animals celebrate the seasons. Eventually, the years take their toll on Bess, she begins to sage and slump. When a new barn is built, Bess stands alone and forgotten. When a storm hits, the new barn falls apart and Bess once again is able to protect the animals. The end of the story is joyful and shows Bess coming full circle. The text is lyrical and draws readers into the beauty of the story. The illustrations by Katie Hickey are done with gentle hues that capture farm life and constant change that goes with it. This is a stunning story that is a perfect addition to any school or classroom library.
