Back of Book: Axle is a brand-new car, fresh off of the assembly line. It feels like his tires have barely hit the pavement when it’s time for all the newbies to move out! Axle watches the other cars zoom onto Earlene, their transport truck, but can’t quite seem to put himself in drive. What will happen at the car dealership? What if he’s not ready for his road test?
Axle tells Earlene he feels funny…maybe he’s out of alignment. She should probably just go without him. Even after Earlene gets him moving, Axle still stalls and crawls. But when the crew hits an unexpected roadblock, it may just be Axle who sparks his plugs, revs his engine, and saves the day!
My Review:
I received a copy of this book from Simon & Schuster and Blue Slip Media in exchange for an honest review.
“All Except Axle” By Sue Lowell Gallion is an enduring picture book that follows a new car named Axle who isn’t sure that he is ready to leave the safety of the assembly line. He tries everything he can think of to stay where he is. With the help of his good friend Earlene, he slowly begins to feel more adventurous. When Earlene gets a flat tire, it is up to Axle to go get a tow truck and save the day. The text holds an important message for readers about not being afraid to try something new. The illustrations by Lisa Manuzak Wiley are bright and showcase a fun group of cars in different types and colors. The scenes along the highway are vivid and include desert flatlands and mountainous hills and valleys. This is a fantastic growth mindset story for readers that get nervous about new adventures!
