“All Except Axle” By Sue Lowell Gallion is an enduring picture book that follows a new car named Axle who isn’t sure that he is ready to leave the safety of the assembly line. He tries everything he can think of to stay where he is. With the help of his good friend Earlene, he slowly begins to feel more adventurous. When Earlene gets a flat tire, it is up to Axle to go get a tow truck and save the day. The text holds an important message for readers about not being afraid to try something new. The illustrations by Lisa Manuzak Wiley are bright and showcase a fun group of cars in different types and colors. The scenes along the highway are vivid and include desert flatlands and mountainous hills and valleys. This is a fantastic growth mindset story for readers that get nervous about new adventures!
