“Runaway Pumpkins” by Teresa Bateman is a fabulously fun fall story that follows a classroom of children as they visit the pumpkin patch. Each child works hard to find the perfect pumpkin. Sadly, on the way home, the pumpkins go bouncing out of the bus and into neighbors yards. The end of the story is a beautiful look at how a community can come together and enjoy a fall party. The rhyming text is catchy and engaging. The illustrations by Stephanie Fizer Coleman are filled with fall colors and showcase a variety of diverse children and community members. The back of the book has a delicious pumpkin recipe that readers can make and enjoy. “Runaway Pumpkins” is a terrific read-aloud for any fall or pumpkin unit.
