Runaway Pumpkins By Teresa Bateman & Stephanie Fizer Coleman

Back of Book:
When a bumpy road and a faulty bus storage lock release a load of handpicked pumpkins back into the wild, the students on a field trip are left with a single pumpkin. Pluckily, they decide to take what they have and do what they can. Together they decorate the only surviving pumpkin for their harvest fair.

But good fortune comes knocking the next day when a group of kind neighbors arrives at the school. They found the smashed pumpkins and turned them into celebratory seasonal fare, perfect for sharing: yummy soup, cake, pie, and even fries!
My Review:
I received a copy of this picture book from Charlesbridge Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
“Runaway Pumpkins” by Teresa Bateman is a fabulously fun fall story that follows a classroom of children as they visit the pumpkin patch. Each child works hard to find the perfect pumpkin. Sadly, on the way home, the pumpkins go bouncing out of the bus and into neighbors yards. The end of the story is a beautiful look at how a community can come together and enjoy a fall party. The rhyming text is catchy and engaging. The illustrations by Stephanie Fizer Coleman are filled with fall colors and showcase a variety of diverse children and community members. The back of the book has a delicious pumpkin recipe that readers can make and enjoy. “Runaway Pumpkins” is a terrific read-aloud for any fall or pumpkin unit.
