Back of Book:
Little Red likes to play by the rules. So when the narrator comes along and asks her to follow the story set out in her fairy tale, she grabs the basket for Grandma and goes. After all, she loves her grandma. But unfortunately, none of the other characters are quite what they’re expecting.…
As Little Red attempts to follow the narrator’s directions (which, frankly, seem kind of dangerous!), she is beset by fill-in characters, confusing instructions, and even a fierce battle! Will Little Red ever make it to Grandma’s house? And who will she find when she gets there? Complete with some unusual “guest appearances,” this laugh-out-loud Little Red Riding Hood retelling will have kids giggling all the way to Grandma’s house! Ding-dong!
My Review:
I am so excited to be apart of the blog tour for this fun story. I received a copy of this picture book from Two Lions Press and Blue Slip Media.
“Its Not Little Red Riding Hood” is the third story in the (Its Not A Fairy Tale) series by Josh Funk. Josh once again delivered a quirky fractured fairy tale that will have readers laughing from beginning to end. The text is a clever blend of the narrator telling the story, and the fairytale characters constantly interrupting him. Red is a strong and sassy lead who knows how she wants her own story to play out. The illustrations by Edwardian Taylor once again capture the magic of the fairytale land. I love that this story showcases a diverse group of characters including one in a wheelchair. This is my favorite book of this series and I look forward to seeing what is next for these talented creators.
