Vote for Our Future! By Margaret McNamara & Illustrated by Micah Player

Back of Book:

Every two years, on the first Tuesday of November, Stanton Elementary School closes for the day. For vacation? Nope! For repairs? No way! Stanton Elementary School closes so that it can transform itself into a polling station. People can come from all over to vote for the people who will make laws for the country. Sure, the Stanton Elementary School students might be too young to vote themselves, but that doesn’t mean they can’t encourage their parents, friends, and family to vote! After all, voting is how this country sees change–and by voting today, we can inspire tomorrow’s voters to change the future.

My Review:

I received a copy of this picture book from Schwartz & Wade in exchange for an honest review.

“Vote for Our Future” by Margaret McNamara is a well-written picture book that teaches readers about the importance of voting. The story follows the students of Stanton Elementary as they research and discuss what they can do until they are old enough to vote. The text is filled with real suggestions like encouraging all your friends and neighbors to vote, voting by mail, and voting early. The student’s persistence pays off as the community comes together on voting day. The illustrations by Micah Player are vibrant and showcase a diverse group of children and community members coming together during the election season. “Vote for Our Future” is a beautiful and timely story that encourages all readers to participate in the election process.
