Back of Book:
The Rounders and the Tallers is a tale of a town where its people have lost their way and separated themselves and the journey to come back together. While the adult leaders of two groups of people struggle to get along, it’s a little boy, in his innocence and compassion, that teaches the people how to forgive and unite.
My Review:
I received a copy of this picture book from Book Trib in exchange for an honest review.
“The Rounders and The Tallers” By Matt Bell is a lovely story with an important message of inclusion and learning to get along. The story follows two groups of people known as The Rounders and The Tallers. When the town becomes overcrowded, the Rounders take it upon themselves to create restricted areas that the Tallers may not enter. This act made all the Tallers incredibly sad and rejected. When a young Taller boy chooses to visit the beach, his decision will change the way that the two people groups connect and communicate. As a teacher, I love using stories like this in my Social and Emotional Learning lessons. Today, more than ever I feel like it is important to teach my students that being different is okay. Matt did a terrific job of explaining a complicated subject matter in a way that young audiences can understand. The back of the book has topics for discussion making it an excellent tool to share in the classroom or at home.
