Spring is on its way and I am looking forward to planting a garden and watching things grow. “Maxine and the Greatest Garden Ever” by Ruth Spiro is a fun springtime read that follows two friends as they create a garden. Maxine and Leo love to create and design things. One day Maxine, Milton (the goldfish), and their friend, Leo, decide to create the “Greatest Garden Ever!” The only problem is, that all the animals think that the garden is for them. Maxine and Leo use problem-solving skills to create solutions to stop the critters from ruining their garden. When their plans continue to fail, it will take perseverance to strengthen their animal deterrent as well as their own friendship. The illustrations by Holly Hatam are filled with bright colors and details! Readers will love looking for Milton the goldfish throughout the story. This is a multi-layered book that focuses on the topics of STEM strategies, growth mindset, friendship, and more. This is a terrific story for the classroom or at home.
