Turkey Goes to School By Wendi Silvano & Illustrated By Lee Harper

Back of Book:

School is starting soon and Turkey can’t wait. Each day, he and his barnyard friends practice their writing and math. But when the school bus rolls up, they are booted off. It turns out that animals aren’t allowed to attend school. Pig calls it “hogwash,” and Turkey agrees. All he has to do is find a way to show the students and the principal that turkeys—and their friends—do belong in school. With a gobble, gobble here; a gobble, gobble there; and a few clever costumes, he just might.

My Review:

I am thrilled to be a part of the Turkey Goes Back to School book tour. I received a copy of this picture book from Two Lions Publishing and Blue Slip Media in exchange for an honest review.

Turkey and his friends are back, and this time they are determined to sneak into school. In classic style, Turkey and his barnyard friends use crazy and entertaining antics to get inside the school. After many failed attempts, the teacher and the animals find a compromise that makes everyone happy. The text in this story is descriptive and filled with “baaad” puns and “fowl” jokes that are make all readers laugh along. The illustrations by Lee Harper have cheerful images and fun details. For example, I love how the teacher in the story is reading the original Turkey Trouble during storytime. The illustrations also beautifully capture the different parts of a school day. Turkey Goes to School is a fantastic book for the first week of school.
