Major Makes History: From the Shelter to the White House By Jill Twiss Illustrated By Maribel Lechuga

Back of Book:

When President Joe Biden adopted his shelter dog Major from the Delaware Humane Association in 2018, their bond was immediate. President Biden rescued Major and provided him with a loving home. What he didn’t know is that Major would also rescue him too.

Major tells the captivating, funny story of how he and Joe first met, and their journey to his brand-new home, the White House.

As a first dog, Major has a lot of work to do! It’s not easy being a presidential dog. Major defends President Biden from vicious vacuum cleaners, helps in the garden by digging holes, and drinks afternoon tea from the toilet bowl, along with his buddy Champ. But his most important job of all is helping Joe become a better version of himself.

My Review:

I received a copy of this picture book from Harper Collins Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Major Makes History: From the Shelter to the White House by Jill Twiss showcases the wonderful relationship that Joe Biden has with his dog, Major. The story is written from Majors’ point of view and tells readers about how he knew that he was the right dog to rescue Joe. Still, learning how to behave at the White House led to some exciting adventures. Major defends President Biden from the vicious vacuum, chews up the toilet paper, and learns how to slowly walk outside. In the end, the most important lesson that Major learns is how to be there when your person needs you. The illustrations by Maribel Lechuga are colorful, and showcases Majors movement beautifully! The back of the book includes more information about other presidential pets, as well as resources for adopting a shelter animal. This is a beautiful story about how a dog’s love can make humans better.
